Can attribute be changed from RW to R by user?

Suppose you have an ordinary Text or String (Object) attribute (column) in a module. Suppose at some point we want to change the user access from the default Read/Write to Read-Only.

Can an owner of a document do this? The user permission level is RMCD.

I can add attributes. I can delete attributes. But I can't seem to tighten access from Read/Write to Read-Only.

Of course anyone in the group could change it back. I just want to discourage changes in certain columns at at some point.

If I try to change the attribute to Read-Only I get:

The user 'xxxxxxxx' doesn't have control access.

It seems strange one can delete but not tighten access.

Any explanation?

Its simple actually. You need control access on an item (meaning the 'A' in RMCDA) for changing access rights. To delete stuff you need delete access ('D'). To create stuff create access ('C'). You should take a close look at the DOORS help on access rights to get the concept.

If you need an alternative approach for controlling changes to attributes I suggest you research "trigger" in the forum. Using those you can prevent changes to attributes dynamically, i.e. by a script.
